Math Team

Coach: Ms. Britner in room 807 (upstairs)

Any student in grades 4-8 at Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School can join our math team practices.  We are a highly motivated group that continue to improve our mathematical skills and problem solving techniques.  We take turns providing a small snack for all attendees for each practice.

We hold math team practice once a week for one hour after school in room 807 (grades 6-8 from 2:10-3:10 and grades 4-5 from 3:10-4:10).  The day of the week for our practices will be determined when school resumes in September.  Each math team member will need to complete a permission slip to stay after school.  All students must provide their own transportation at the end of our practice.  If any student in grades 6-8 would like to stay for the grade 4-5 practice, they may do so with prior notice to Ms. Britner.  During the first practice, a schedule of practice and competition dates will be dispersed.

We prepare for three competitions during the school year.  In October we will compete in Bergen County, NJ competition that includes grades 4-8.  In December we will compete at Haddam-Killingworth middle school against other local schools that includes grades 5-8.  In February we will compete at Math Counts (including grades 5-8) for our regional competition.  More information will be provided as the dates of the competitions get closer.

The Math Counts competition has limited entries per school, so if we need to, we will hold try-outs to make our NHRMS team.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Britner by email ( or by phone (860) 873-5081 ext 807. Thank you.
